I heard of the ‘list of favourite things’ concept a few years ago. It works like this. Without thinking too hard, write down twenty-five (fifty if you like) things you really love to do. Surprisingly, when you read the list back, you will find that most of the things you really like to do are either free or cost very little money.

I wager that even the fashion forward among you don’t know that Hermès do coffee. Well, er, they don’t actually produce coffee. They do however have a café in their bright airy new Parisian Left Bank shop, on the Rue de Sèvres.

To mark their 40th anniversary, The Crafts Council of Ireland have designated 2011 as the Year of Craft. The Royal Hibernian Academy have decided to celebrate this by opening the retail space at its city centre premises (15 Ely Place, Dublin 2) as a Pop-Up Shop, to showcase the best upcoming Irish craft workers and designers. Genius idea. The pop up shop is open from the 4th March to the 30th July this year. The ‘tenants’ will be changing over every so often. It is well worth popping in every couple of weeks to see what the different creatives have on offer. To check the full schedule and descriptions click here.

…who has the best staff of all? You do at La Vallée Outlet Village.
I love brand Marni. However the hefty price tags mean I can only afford to buy, when the clothes are deeply discounted in the sales, or are available at a Marni outlet.

Shrove Tuesday heralds the beginning of Lent which starts tomorrow, Ash Wednesday. The forty days of Lent are a period of abstinence in the Christian tradition . As a child, abstinence meant giving up chocolate and sweets. I made this bearable by crossing the days off the calendar in a countdown to the Easter Day chocolate fest.

I have always believed that koala bears are warm cuddly creatures who live in peaceful co-existence with the rest of the animal kingdom and of course humankind. I am afraid to look them up on Wiki in case this is not so.

On a crisp day late this January, I was walking down the Avenue Montaigne in Paris. I stopped to admire the Chanel windows, which showcased the Spring 2011 collection. My eye was drawn to the colourful backdrops. They were a perfect counterpoint to the ethereally pretty pastel-shaded clothes in the windows. I took some photographs. It was only when I uploaded these that I noticed the signature in the bottom right hand corner. The artist is none other than the talented polymath Monsieur Karl Lagerfeld head honcho at The House of Chanel
I started keeping a gratitude diary in February 2001. My first entry expresses my thanks to my friend M, who told me about the concept of writing down five things you are thankful for, every day.
