If I were a tourist in a foreign city Bow is exactly the sort of shop I would like to stumble upon; Dublin is fortunate to have this unique addition to the city’s retail landscape. Bow is co-owned by three talented people, Ellis Boyle (creator of ethereally pretty clothes), Margaret O’Rourke (jewellery designer and founder of her own label MoMuse) and Wendy Crawford (finder of vintage treasures). The mix in the shop is thus clothes, jewellery and vintage items.
Bow is a peaceful place, it has a lovely wooden floor and simple pale-painted walls, which are a pleasing backdrop to the gorgeous stock. Everything is just so, nothing is over the top and the space oozes creativity. Imagination ingenuity and inventiveness are evident everywhere from the divine displays in the windows to the simple signs hanging on the walls.
As well as creations and vintage finds by the owners, Bow stocks a number of other labels including Tim Ryan (London-based Irish designer and wunderkind of the world of knitwear), Manley (the talented Emma Manley’s eponymous label), People Tree and Camilla Norrback.
Bow is a shop I could spend an age browsing around. If you are looking for something beautiful, beguiling and out of the ordinary Bow is the place to go. Even if your are not in a spending mood it is so worth a visit, as it’s a different type of retail experience and in total and welcome contrast to the hordes of homogenous shops on high street.
Note; Bow is on the ground floor of the Powescourt Townhouse in the centre of Dublin and their website is at http://bowpowerscourt.com Eilis Boyle’s blog Silent Storyteller can be found if you click here.
