Lately …

IMG_5982

I could claim that the recent lack of a blog post was due to the pressure of a maddeningly long to-do list but that would be economical with the truth because the reality is said lack is down to my unfailing talent (not) for caving into distractions.

The Irish writer Josephine Hart (1942 – 2011), who was fiercely passionate about poetry and about bringing it to a wider audience, said of the literary medium she loved:

Out Walking

sea walk

Yesterday, knowing that today is the longest day, I briefly considered that I might get up this morning pre-dawn and go out with my camera seeking pictures of daybreak. Very briefly! Laziness won and the anticipation of a full eight hours sleep totally trumped the idea of clambering, bleary-eyed, out of bed at some ungodly hour this am.

So pleased …

yellow flowers

Filling in the online application was as easy as gliding down an oiled slide. I was applying for a place, at a College of Further Education, to do a year’s full-time course in photography: the college’s website said that selection was by interview and I knew that was going to be the difficult bit.

Blog On …

blogging

To blog or not to blog that is the question. When I set up Just Add Attitude I didn’t have an iota of a notion whether I would simply write four or five posts and then stop, or if I would continue jogging along the blog route ad infinitum.

For example, I came across frühjahrsmüdigkeit at a set of French classes I attend donkeys’ years ago, now in all honesty I didn’t actually remember the word, as I had to google it, but I did remember, quite well, the concept behind the word. If only the rules governing the use of the subjunctive in French were similarly super glued into my long-term memory!

Lately …

lighting a fire

Lately, well, immediately post-Christmas, I was in the UK staying with my very good and old (in the known for a long time sense) friends A & B and their three beautiful and clever daughters one of whom I feel privileged to be godmother to, and I mustn’t forget the final member of the household the aptly named Bella the friendly family dog. There are no pictures or posts from my trip because I was too busy having a wonderful time: said time was a magical mix of some lovely things to do and relaxing interludes.

Hello 2014!

new year

There’s a time to make lists: there’s a time to unwind. Paradoxically what’s most likely the year’s prime list making time, New Year’s day, is also a public holiday.
I gave up making New Year resolutions several years ago but I replaced the resolutions with a series of to-do list, each with a different heading e.g. personal; health and fitness; home etc. This year in the interest of a chilled New Year’s day there was no frenetic writing of multiple lists of things to do over the coming twelve months but instead I thought of stuff I would like to do over the next decade and as I seem to have difficulty breaking the list-making habit, I listed them. They are:
