♥ Alternative Christmas Gifts

Christmas window Paris

Today’s post was meant to be about something else but as is the way of the world I ended up devoting time that I had set aside for blog writing to something entirely different.  The hours sped by and all of a flash the planed post was toast.  Let me explain and bear with me while I veer off piste on a minor digression before I arrive at what I led you to expect when I typed this post’s title.

I am a member of a Toastmaster club; that’s a public speaking club and it’s not at all, if you are thinking so, fuddy duddy (Toastmasters has a network of clubs throughout the globe; I plan to do a post on them some time soon).  The thing is I am the toastmaster (chairperson) at tomorrow night’s gathering of my club, so I spent a couple of hours this evening doing some last-minute prep for the meeting instead of putting together the planned post.

The theme I have chosen for tomorrow’s assembly is Christmas, (please don’t yell I know it’s not terribly imaginative or original).  When I was trawling the net looking for some Christmas quotes I came across one from Oren Arnold which is actually a list suggesting some alternative Christmas gift.  I am planning to incorporate the quote into my introductory words tomorrow evening.  They do sound like  gifts that keep on giving and there are a few I would be very pleased to receive. If you haven’t come across the list before, here it is.

  • To your enemy, forgiveness.
  • To an opponent, tolerance.
  • To a friend, your heart.
  • To a customer, service.
  • To all, charity.
  • To every child, a good example.
  • To yourself, respect.

I am crossing my fingers and toes and hoping the meeting goes well. Talk to you soon.

  3. Perfect gifts for *all* occasions. I know you’ll do marvelously at your Toastmasters event! Just wish I could be there to cheer you on, and to enjoy your always insightful and delightful way with words. 🙂

  4. Thanks Kathryn for your good wishes. I am just home from Toastmasters and all went well.
