Christmas Eve

Christmas 3014

So another year has spun around and it’s Christmas time again. This morning I headed into the city centre. Traffic was light so I was all parked up just before eight o’clock and I started the day ensconced in a cosy café (Hatch & Sons), breakfasting on a scrumptious date scone and coffee.

I was on a mission to buy a present for the most important person in my life. Who? Me, of course! No, I am not a narcissist, it’s just the way things are. And, yes, I will be wrapping it up! Self gifting is the best as you always get exactly what you want. Early morning on Christmas Eve is an excellent time to shop: many stores open early, the city doesn’t get busy until after ten, and best of all merchandise is reduced as most sales now effectively begin before the traditional post-Christmas off.

I bought a two-tone (grey and olive-green) cashmere jumper by Lucy Nagle. I’ve been eyeing it for some time so I was pretty pleased that there was still one left in my size. So pleased that I ended up buying myself two other presents. One was a lipstick, which is a buy that is beyond bonkers as I rarely wear lipstick plus I already have lots of lipsticks in many differing shades. The other was Guardian Weekend’s beauty columnist Sali Hughes’s book ‘Pretty Honest’ billed as: ‘the straight-taking beauty companion’.

I was back home before noon to start on the remaining few things I need to do before the ‘big day’. Christmas divides the masses, people either love or loathe it. I don’t loathe it but still and all it’s not my favourite time of year but that’s not going to prevent me enjoying tomorrow. Wherever you are, if you celebrate it, I wish you a happy and peaceful Christmas and if you don’t I wish you a Happy Holiday.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING JUST ADD ATTITUDE

  1. So many of us have a love/hate relationship with the Christmas Holiday, I love it in theory but LOATHE the stress that can come with such an important holiday. I do love your sweater, and you are so right, gifting oneself is the best you get exactly what you want. Merry Merry!!

    • Thank you, I have worn the sweater once already, it’s cosy and casual and I love it. Christmas can be a stressful time for all sorts of reasons plus there is an unspoken expectation that the day will be perfect. 😉

  2. I love the idea of buying yourself a present, and all by yourself too (my favourite way to shop) .. it makes me think that i should do something like that too, though I did by myself a new cow the other day.. does that count? c

  3. oops.. have a merry christmas day! c

  4. How wonderful to get your shopping done early and without the crowds! I always get myself a little Christmas gift too 🙂 I hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas B!

  5. I always buy myself a gift from our puppy, lol, something I know I want.. the rest is a bonus;) Wishing you and yours a lovely day!! xx

  11. I love reading Just Add Attitude! It’s always a pleasure 🙂 I was looking at that lead photo and hoping against hope that those shelves were yours, but I knew they weren’t. Nice company to eat a date scone with though 🙂 It’s here and gone for another year and I’m contemplating the washing, etc. A little idle time first, and then maybe a walk later. My very best wishes for 2015 and feel free to be a bauble on my tree any time 🙂

    • Thank you so much Jo for your kind words. The shelves are mine! It’s actually a book case, it was in storage while I was having the renovations done and as I can’t put my books back into it until it’s screwed to the wall (else it will topple over) I decided to use it as a repository for my Christmas decorations. Post Christmas I am going to have to buy a drill and learn how to use it! My very best wishes to you too for 2015. B 😉

  12. I hope you had a lovely Christmas Day and the New Year is happy and healthy.

  14. We had a lovely Christmas dinner for 6 friends. That was 2 weeks after we got the flu and truth be told we still have bronchitis but we are looking for war to better health in the New Year. May yours be a prosperous one.

  15. I hope you enjoyed your gifts. 🙂 Happy New Year!

  16. That’s a gorgeous sweater – quite right too that you should gift it to yourself! Hope you had a good day.

  17. I bought myself a present, too. Just a little one, but it was the first time I ever did that. Perhaps you’ve been rubbing off on me… 🙂

    (That’s a smashing sweater!)
