Lately it seems as if time has ghosted by and yet Christmas 2014 still feels as if it is as far away as the twenty-fifth century. And I have been absent from the blog. Again! That’s because, for the three weeks just gone by, I decamped to the back bedroom of my lilliputian house while a builder took over most of the rest of it. A diagram of my brain during that period would have shown that I was ninety-five per cent preoccupied with the building work, leaving a mere five per cent for dealing everything else. Yesterday the work was complete and I got my house, now transformed, back.
The builder wasn’t doing any work to my kitchen or bathroom, they are both projects for another day, so it was perfectly possible, if somewhat stressful, to live here while the work was done. Anyone that I told I was planning on staying put, thought that to do was the distillation of insanity at one hundred per cent proof. However it worked out well. I may have seemed like a mad idea but I am in agreement with one of my favourite poets Emily Dickinson who said: “Much madness is the divinest sense.” Not only did I save on the cost of alternative accommodation but I was on hand to check on progress
What suffered most during the three weeks were my healthy-ish eating habits. I lived on a merry-go-round of take away foods and ready prepared meals for the duration. Not to mention way too many cups of coffee and worse I have been greedily hovering up the biscuits I bought for the builders to eat. So once January dawns it’s definitely time to reverse that. I am also in need of more exercise so I am idly wondering whether I might join a gym. Maybe, just maybe!
I have much to do in the next four days so it’s time to make a super long to-do list. I hope your Christmas preparations are a great deal more on track than mine.
