There are very, very few photographs on JAA that I didn’t take myself, however the image above of Brigid the Sheep reading a copy of the charmingly illustrated children’s book ‘This is Ireland’ by Miroslav Sasek is from Makers & Brothers (I have written about them here and here). I ‘borrowed’ the image, and I hope the brothers don’t mind, because I was totally smitten by it: heaven alone knows what that says about my inner psyche.
Speak of the psyche, and as it’s St Patrick’s Day, the Irish psyche in particular, I recently learnt that in all probability Sigmund Freud didn’t utter the following words, about us Irish, which are often attributed to him: ‘This is one race of people for whom psychoanalysis is of no use whatsoever.’ Leastways, there is no evidence that he did according to the FAQ section on the website of London’s Freud Museum. That is a pity as it’s a potently good quote and would explain a lot!
Anyway, my conscious explanation for loving the image of Brigid and her book is that it evokes (for me) some of the things I like most about Ireland and being Irish, namely: the green open spaces; the (in certain parts) hauntingly beautiful landscape; our love of books and our noteworthy literary history; our creativity; and given that most likely Brigid the Sheep didn’t major in art appreciation – our sense of humour.
HAPPY ST PATRICK’S DAY!
Happy St Patrick’s day to you too. What a glorious one – the weather is lovely. Hx
Thanks so much H. Weather over the last week has been glorious – I hope it’s set fair for the next little while.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you! I hope you enjoy the day. π
Thank you Karen and I hope you are having a good day and that the snow has now departed. π
Thank you! I wish I could say that the snow is gone but there is still a foot of snow on the ground. Sunny days are slowly melting it. π
Wow, a foot of snow! Good to hear you are having some sunny days which are slowly melting it. Everything looks better bathed in sunlight. π
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day to you as well! I hope you have a wonderful day π Although I’ve never been to Ireland, pictures of green open spaces are one of the things that definitely come to mind! Thank you for sharing the children’s book with us!
Thank you Heather. ;). We are lucky to have a lot of open green space and in the west of the country the scenery is particularly lovely. The only downside of the greenness is all the rain! π
I don’t know what it says about me, that I love the image, too. I’m sharing it on Facebook.
I think there is something about the image that draws people to it (well you and me at least!). Thank you for sharing on Facebook. π
Thanks for words so appreciative of Ireland which confirm my desire to go there to experience just what you describe.
Thank you very much for your comment and I hope you get to visit Ireland some time soon. π
Happy St Patricks day, love Brigid the sheep and the childrens book what a lovely image. Hope you had a wonderful day!
Thank you so much and yes I had a good day. π
I hope you enjoyed St Patrick’s Day – love that little literary sheep π
Thank Suzanne I did. π
That is the cutest picture! I’ll have to look for that book too… π
I agree, it’s so cute. π
Lovely post! I hope you enjoyed the day! I spent the day with my irish friend Joan. π
Have a great weekend,
Dina
Thank you so much Dina, and yes I had a good St. Patrick’s Day. I hope you enjoyed your time with your friend Joan.
Have a lovely week.

Sorry to be so late to the party, dear B: hope you spent a pleasant, fun-filled Saint Patrick’s Day. Your (supposed) quote of Dr Freud made me laugh! π
I hope I will be able to come visit the Emerald Island one day…
Γirinn go BrΓ‘ch! π
Go raibh mile maith agat (a thousand thanks) Stefano, and, yes, I did have a good St Patrick’s Day. Hopefully you will get to visit the Emerald Isle one day. π
