My Week

summer

dusk

This week Ireland hit the meteorological jackpot, the weather has been glorious with: crystalline blue skies, the gently whir of soft coastal breezes and a warm vibrant sun casting a glittery glow over everything. I love these balmy days but my favourite time is not when the sun is high in the sky but when it begins to dip and day starts to dissolves into inky night.

blouse agnes b

This week I discovered one of the pitfalls of online shopping when I ordered a blouse from a favourite brand, Agnès B. I don’t often shop on the net for clothes as I prefer to know that something will fit and suit before I buy. But I had seen this blouse in an Agnès B shop in London earlier in the year and it was now a tempting half price in the online sale so I ordered it up. The problem was I didn’t pay close attention to the colour and when it arrived it wasn’t the creamy-coloured one I had seen before but a not so flattering (for my skin tone) pale shade of grey. Entirely my fault  – I decided to keep it and to give internet clothes shopping a miss for the forseeable future

self tanner

This week I may just have found the ‘one’.  The ‘one’ in this case being a self tanner that works. I could build a mini mountain out of the discarded bottles and tubes of self-tanners I’ve bought over the years which promised to give my legs a sun-kissed and streak free look and didn’t. My latest purchase from the aptly named brand ‘This Works’ seem to be doing the trick, at least on the streak-free front. Although as it’s a delayed action tanner there is always the possibility that I will wake up tomorrow looking like a cross between an orange and a bottle of milk.

croissant

This week I had a last supper, well a last breakfast actually. No, it’s not that I am never going to eat breakfast again just that I am going to tweak my diet to add more fibre. The rest of my diet is reasonably healthy but my none too healthy morning meal choices are either: a scone with butter and jam; scrambled eggs on toast; or the occasional almond croissant. None of these are exactly fibre-filled. I am extremely partial to an early morning scone so I  hope I won’t suffer from withdrawal symptoms! And I am wondering how many things you can make with porridge oats.

This week (and the one before) I have suffered from blogger’s block. Actually it’s more a case of blogger’s doubt because I have a few  rough drafts of posts written but I am just not sure about any of them. I need to do some pondering on whether the blog stays as is or takes a slightly different direction. I may be blogging-lite until I come to a conclusion.

I hope you had a good week.

  1. Pretty blouse!! I have bloggers block all the time, have a line of posts in queue just waiting for me to do something with them. The photo’s are so pretty!

  2. Ireland is certainly looking gorgeous right now…I would love to visit one day. I have not bought anything on line and may never do so.
Maybe there is something in the air, I have become a bit disillusioned with my blog and am wondering where to go with it as well.

    • Ireland doesn’t often get such beautiful weather *sighs*. I hope you get here one day. Maybe there is something in the air causing bloggers to reflect. Good luck with whatever you decide for the future of your blog which is btw always very readable and filed with lovely images.

  3. the weather is glorious isnt it!
I’ve been away from blogging for a while, in my case life was busy and my brain empty. whatever you choice you make, make it for you

Love the idea of blogger’s doubt – I have a long list of things, from three-words-note to 2000 words articles in Scrivener, so that I can keep all ideas safe until their time has come. Already three of those have grown to very good posts (Grace afoot, for example). So: When in doubt, keep a detailed write-up 😉
As for healthy breakfasts, I so. hear. you. My idea of breakfast has been – for years – rushing out the house, finding the next coffee latte lactose-free opportunity, get one, but most often TWO croissants or similar pastries (apple strudel, belgian waffle…), and rush to the office.
Good luck with your selftan, but remember that selftan-treated skin needs EXTRA sunscreen.

    • I love the phrase: ‘keep all ideas safe until their time has come’. I am going to check out Scrivener as I haven’t heard of it so thanks for mentioning it.

Coffee and TWO croissants I am so envious as I had porridge for breakfast, mind you I probably undid the health benefit by pouring lots of cream and honey over it.

Thank you for the sun screen guidance. I don’t sunbathe but given the lovely weather we are having here at the moment it’s probably a good idea to slather some sunscreen on when I go out and about. 😉

scrivener is the writer’s BFF. I’ve researched a lot of writing software, geeked out about it, freaked out at some of it, and ultimately ended up with S. loving it!

oh, the croissant times are long gone. today I had porridge with fresh peaches 🙂

      • Thanks for the heads up on Scrivener I am definitely going to try it. Today’s breakfast sounds both healthy and delicious. 😉

yeah, it was delicious! I combine oat with puffed quinoa and chia seeds, and then just quickly heat up (a bit) the fruit with a bit of lemon juice and xylitol to make a sweet sauce. nomnom 😉

        aaaand: good night from berlin!

      • Sounds very nomnom. 😉

        good night from Ireland!

  5. My dear B.,
I can feel your “confusion”. Blogging is much more than just blabbering something in the blogosphere. It’s always a creative gesture and inspiration does not come every day … at least for me. I’ll follow and support you no matter what direction you take. I’m sure it will be lovely as always. Take care, F. Xx

    • Dear Francesca,

Thank you so much for your kind comment. Blogging is strange sometimes writing as we do into the ether – I don’t wish you to suffer from bloggers block but it is comforting to know that inspiration isn’t there all the time and that you feel my ‘confusion’.

I really appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment when you are on holiday.

      Take care B xxx

  6. Dear B,
I love the moody feeling and the pastel colors in your twilight image: very nice shot!
And, sorry to say, I also love almond croissants! But I agree with you, not the healthiest choice for breakfast… 😉
Good luck with your pondering, but as they say, don’t over-think it as you have a beautiful and enjoyable blog already, as well as a pleasant to read style. 🙂
    Have a great week! 🙂

    • Dear Stefano,

Thank you very much for the compliment on the twilight image. It’s one of the very few I have taken that I am quite happy with.

Don’t mention almond croissants, I am trying not to think about them this week! 😉

Not to over-think is good advice and thanks for the lovely things you say about the blog. 😉

You too – have a great week. B

  7. Sounds like a wonderful week to me! I too have a phobia of purchasing clothes online because I’m worried they’ll be the wrong size or the color will be different than I thought. The blouse looks lovely though, very light and summery! Perfect for what sounds like some lovely weather you’ve been having 🙂

    • Hi Heather,

Yes, I like the blouse it’s just grey doesn’t suit me that well. My mistake over the colour won’t encourage me to shop online but that’s probably a good thing for my bank balance!

I hope you are having some lovely weather where you are. 😉

  8. Too bad that there aren’t whole wheat croissants or six grain croissants with sunflower seeds. 🙂 I think that every blogger has the same problems. I know I do when I try to keep up over the summer and I’m entertaining house guests most weeks at the lake. Blogging is supposed to be an enjoyable hobby, at least as far as I’m concerned, so do what makes you happy.

  9. You had quite a week! The color of the sky is beautiful – it looks like that in Maine too… 🙂

  10. Crystalline blue skies; a divine description. The sky has so many hues and tones and textures that I run out of words to describe it. Bless your morning porridge. I love mine; usually with a dollop of yogurt and a token sprinkle of sugar 🙂
