I am a huge fan of Apple products and I was very sad to hear of Steve Jobs untimely death. I saw this Jobs quote, from a speech he made at Stanford University in 2005, on a large number of websites this morning.
“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”

Out, brief candle. It’s amazing how knowing for certain that death is imminent seems for most of us to change the fact that it pretty much is imminent for us all anyway. Nothing like one of these public reminders to make me sit up straight again.
And because I could not be sitting here making this comment in on this very Mac in this very forum if it weren’t for Mr Jobs and his cohorts, I do indeed say, thanks for everything.
Indeed. I like you expression ‘brief candle’ it so evokes how short life really is; a reminder to make the most of it.
Would that I could take the credit for the phrase, but at least I try to steal from the best! 😉
