As I normally eat a healthy diet, this Alex Levin quote made me laugh. “Only Irish coffee provides in a single glass all four essential food groups: alcohol, caffeine, sugar and fat.”
Today is St Patrick’s Day so I thought why not, I’ll have myself an Irish coffee.
Method
You will need to use a glass with a stem. Pour one measure of whiskey into the bottom of the glass. Then add hot coffee, which has been sweetened with a couple of spoons of brown sugar. The coffee should reach to within 1.5cm of the top of the glass. Lastly pour the cream over the back of spoon to top off the drink with a creamy white head (much like a pint of Guinness). Two things to note. If you omit the sugar the cream will not float and it is a good idea to put a spoon in the glass, when you add the hot coffee, to prevent it breaking.
Confession – I whipped the cream lightly as I couldn’t get it to float on top of the coffee.
